Business Owner to Fine Art Career
In coaching school. we learn that often the first thing clients think they want to work on is not the actual thing they want to work on. The process of inquiry is funny that way. It’s like peeling the layers of an onion. Or waiting for a train to pass, only to discover there is another train behind it.
This client was very invested in growing their business so that it would be profitable and figuring out ways to work more efficiently in order to do that. They were feeling frustrated by both the desire to do more and less at the same time.
Part way through our work together, there was a distinctive turning point for this client in a coaching session. As we were brainstorming different approaches and ideas for their business, they dropped their voice and said, “You know what I really want to do?”. This idea was a radical departure from the way they were currently approaching work and life. And it would require new levels of risk and vulnerability to get there. Would it be less work and more efficient? No. Would it be worth it? Hell yes.
One of the joys of this work is getting to be in the room when someone decides and turns their whole selves towards their decision.
This client is now an award winning and exhibiting fine artist.
